1. Introduction

This article mainly introduces Milesight external interface types, application scenarios and web configurations of intelligent traffic cameras.

2. Overview of Interface of Milesight LPR Series

3. Introduction of Milesight Interfaces

3.1 General Alarm Interface

3.1.1 What is General Alarm Interface

General alarm interfaces of Milesight intelligent traffic series are expansion interface, which used to integrate with third-party devices or systems to improve the applicability of the camera.

3.1.2 General Alarm Interface Application Scenarios

In Milesight, general alarm interface is widely used in intelligent traffic cameras except PGC series. This interface can be connected to various third-party devices such as high-way access control system, ground sensing system, alarm system, parking lot space occupation system and so on.

For example, for alarm input interface, it can be wired with a pressure sensor for an overweight detection and capture. When a vehicle is overweight and triggers the sensor, the sensor will send the signal via alarm input interface to the camera. Then the camera will make a vehicle detection to record the vehicle attributes and license plate and posts to back platform.

For alarm output, it can be wired with high speed access control system. When you set the white list and detect the correct license plate, the camera will send signal via output interface to access control system to open the gate.

3.1.3 Wiring Method

General External interface is divided into tail line version and junction box version, as shown in the diagram below:

Tail line Version:

Junction box Version:

The wiring method of the tail line and the junction box version interface is consistent.

The wiring method is described as follows:

PIN1: Alarm Output NC/NO 24V DC 1A

PIN2: Alarm Output NC/NO 24V DC 1A

PIN3: Alarm input NC/NO S12V

PIN4: Alarm input NC/NO S12V

Digital Output (External Output):

Dry contact. Dry contact is a passive switch that is not charged and typically consists of two or more metal contacts. When these contacts are closed or open, they can indicate the status of the switch.

Digital Input (External Input):

Wet contact. Wet contact is an active switch, energized, usually driven by current or voltage signals, which used to control or transmit electrical signals.

Also, for tail line version, the wiring method is the same as above.

3.2 Wiegand Interface

3.2.1 What is Wiegand

Wiegand is a data transmission standard commonly used in access control systems. Originally developed by Wiegand Wire. Wiegand interface is widely used in access control systems, attendance systems and other systems that require authentication.

3.2.2 Wiegand Interface Application Scenarios

In Milesight, Wiegand interface is applied only for Exit&Entrance Series.

This interface is mainly applied to access control system. Specifically, you can set the white list and when the right license plate is detected, camera will send the signal by Wiegand interface to the access control system open the gate.

3.2.3 Wiring Method

Wiegand interface reuses External Alarm interface. The difference is that Wiegand interface needs to be grounded.

3.3 RS485 Interface

3.3.1 What is RS485 Interface

RS485 interface is a serial communication standard widely used in industrial control and communication systems. RS485 interface can be used to wire with additional lighting systems/access control systems/sensors/traffic lights and cameras, etc.

3.3.2 RS485 Interface Application Scenarios

RS485 interface is applied in Entrance&Exit / Traffic X / PMC and PGC series.

RS485 interface can also be used in Entrance&Exit cameras for access control and due to its advantages, Entrance&Exit cameras can be wired with to various systems such as lighting system, voice control system at the same time via RS485 ports.

Specifically, for Traffic X series, it can be wired with traffic light for red light violation detection.

Notes:

At present, Milesight RS485 interface can transmit and receive data normally, but if you need, please contact us for software customization and analysis of customized data.

3.3.3 Wiring method

RS485 interface diagram:

Below is the Wiring diagram of RS485 interface with other devices:

In RS485 communication networks, 485 transceivers are usually used to convert TTL levels and RS485 levels. A matching resistor of 120 ohms was added at the starting and ending ends of the bus.

Notes:

In a half duplex communication system, there is only one channel used for data transmission. This channel can switch between two directions, but at any given time, it can only transmit data in one direction.

The transmission rate can be configured in bits per second. Available options include 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200 and 38400. The default setting is 9600.

Data Bit

The data bit defines the number of bits used to transmit data in each data byte. The data bit is set to 8, which allows each byte to transmit 8 bits of information.

Stop Bit

The stop bit is configured to indicate the number of bits that mark the end of a data frame. Available options for the stop bit include 1 bit and 2 bits. The stop bit setting ensures the integrity of data and enables the receiving side to correctly interpret the data.

Parity

The error detection and correct method can be configured. Available options include (None) No Parity, Odd Parity and Even Parity. The parity bit can be used to validate the integrity of data. The default selection is None.
